Chapter 01 · Liquidity & Banking

Multi-Bank Accounts & Passbook Ledger

Module Summary: Manage liquid cash reserves across commercial banks, physical cash in hand, and digital wallets with a double-entry transaction passbook.

Account Architecture and Types

SubDebt supports four distinct liquidity account structures designed for accurate personal bookkeeping:

Account Classification Operational Role Typical Examples
Commercial Bank Primary checking and current accounts with account masking HDFC, SBI, J&K Bank, Kotak, ICICI
Digital Wallet Prepaid balances and mobile payments interfaces Paytm Wallet, Amazon Pay, Slice
Cash in Hand Physical paper currency and coin reserves kept on person Physical Wallet, Cash Box, Drawer
Savings & Reserves Emergency deposits and locked liquidity funds Fixed Deposit, Sweep Accounts, Emergency Fund

Transaction Types and Balance Mechanics

Every transaction entry atomically updates account balances based on strict double-entry mathematics:

Transaction Entry Mathematical Impact Passbook Ledger Representation
Money In (Deposit) Balance = Current Balance + Amount Represented with emerald green badge and (+) sign
Money Out (Withdrawal) Balance = Current Balance - Amount Represented with coral red badge and (-) sign
Account Transfer Source = Source - Amount; Target = Target + Amount Atomically debits source bank and credits destination bank

Monthly Cash Flow Ratio Analytics

Passbook and Bank overview screens compute real-time monthly financial flow:

  • Monthly Inflow: Total sum of deposits plus incoming transfers received within the active calendar month.
  • Monthly Outflow: Total sum of withdrawals plus outgoing transfers sent within the active calendar month.
  • Net Cash Flow: Computed as Inflow minus Outflow. Displays as positive surplus or negative deficit.
  • Segmented Progress Visualizer: Displays volume proportion of inflow versus outflow with dual-tone progress bars.

Passbook Querying, Range Filters & CSV Export

  1. Live Query Search: Enter keywords in the passbook search bar to filter entries by category, payee note, counterparty name, or numeric amount.
  2. Date Range Filter: Filter passbook statements by All Dates, This Month, Last Month, or Last 90 Days with single-tap toggle pills.
  3. One-Click CSV / Excel Exporter: Tap the grid icon in any passbook header to export complete transaction histories into standard RFC 4180 CSV format.
  4. Reversible Ledger: Deleting or editing any transaction dynamically rebalances the account and linked transfer balances.

Chapter 02 · Expense Tracking

Daily Spending, Payment Sources & Bill Splitting

Module Summary: Log day-to-day purchases, link payments directly to bank accounts, organize custom categories, attach photo receipts, and split bills with friends.

Recording Expenses and Payment Source Deduction

  1. Open the Add Spending modal from the bottom navigation or radial speed-dial action menu.
  2. Enter the expenditure title (e.g. Groceries, Fuel, Coffee) and the exact numeric cost.
  3. Select the Category. The smart categorizer automatically predicts category assignment based on title keywords.
  4. Select Payment Source: Choose Cash or tap an active Bank Account chip. When a bank account is selected, the application confirms and automatically deducts the amount from your live balance and logs an outward withdrawal in your passbook.
  5. Attach Receipt: Capture a camera photograph or select an image from the native photo picker. Receipts are stored in sandboxed storage.
  6. Tap Add Expense to finalize the entry.

Bill Splitting with Automatic Credit Generation

How SubDebt eliminates debt tracking friction when paying group bills:

  • Enable the Split Bill With Friends switch inside the Add Spending form.
  • Add participant names (e.g. Rahul, Sameer, Priya).
  • The application calculates equal shares or allows manual adjustments per person.
  • Your personal share is logged as your actual discretionary expense for budget calculations.
  • For each friend added, the system automatically creates a lent Credit entry in the Owed tab under their name, referencing the expense title and timestamp.
  • If a bank account was selected as payment source, the full total bill is deducted from the bank, while personal and owed shares are compartmentalized accurately.

Receipt Vault Privacy

Receipt images are renamed with cryptographically generated UUID strings, stored inside the sandboxed document directory accessible only to SubDebt, and completely excluded from public device galleries.

Chapter 03 · Liabilities

Debts & Borrowed Liabilities Ledger
